Discoloration of watch dial is quite a common thing. Especially, you will not be surprised to find that many old watches experience this problem. There are a variety of discoloration types. As a matter fact, there are production reasons and external causes that induce watch dial discolor. Obviously, external causes are what we can deal with to prevent discoloration on watch dial. Now let’s see the external causes.
1. The invasion of water or moisture. If the watch case is not sealed very well, the invasion of moisture will harm the watch dial, making its color change.
2. Luminous material applied to the hands. When it comes to watches only for collection purposes and with luminous hands, you are supposed to be cautious about luminous material. For many old fashioned watches, the discoloration parts on the dial turn out the corresponding places under the luminous hands.
3. Long term exposure to sun is harmful. Various rays from the sun will make everything gradually discolor. Watch dial is no exception.
4. Radiation and radioactive material is deadly. Radiation, commonly used in medical treatment and some industrial production, can make some things change color within a short time. In jewelry industry, radiation can be used to change the colors of some gems into what are expected.
